CIJ: I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas

July 26, 2009

It has been at least 10+ years since I have had a White snowy Christmas. And Even longer than that for Mister Electrician.Sure Christmas in a joyous time of the year but just once I would like to see snow or have it snow on Christmas.Living in Florida we knew that was quite impossible. But now that we live in Missouri we usually see snow around January or February well in my 3years of being here. Yes snow is wet and it’s cold but it is oh so pretty to see  and how the sun glistens on it or even the moon light reflection upon freshly fallen snow. When I  lived in Idaho  my Dear Dad would go outside on Christmas Eve and make “reindeer” prints in the snow and Christmas morning he would show me that yes Santa Claus did visit our house. Those were some very memorable times. I guess I’m just wishing for the snow that way I can pass on the “reindeer” prints to show my own children. The two older ones may not be convinced but I’m sure that the youngest one would believe. And I’m sure that Dad would be watching from Heaven Smiling upon us and remembering the times that he would do that for me. So MotherNature if your listening please give me a White Christmas this year. Thanks

CIJ: Twas the night before Christmas

July 17, 2009

Every Christmas Eve My Dad and I would read this and I have continued reading it to my own kids..
Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St Nicholas soon would be there.

The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads.
And mamma in her ‘kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just settled our brains for a long winter’s nap.

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature sleigh, and eight tinny reindeer.

With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St Nick.
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!

“Now Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen!
On, Comet! On, Cupid! on, on Donner and Blitzen!
To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!”

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky.
So up to the house-top the coursers they flew,
With the sleigh full of Toys, and St Nicholas too.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
Down the chimney St Nicholas came with a bound.

He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot.
A bundle of Toys he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a peddler, just opening his pack.

His eyes-how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow.

The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,
And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath.
He had a broad face and a little round belly,
That shook when he laughed, like a bowlful of jelly!

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself!
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled all the stockings, then turned with a jerk.
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose!

He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, ‘ere he drove out of sight,
“Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!”

Monday Mayhem

July 13, 2009

Today I took all 3 kidlets to the Dentist for their check-up and cleaning , While waiting for our turn My son along with two other boys his age convince my 5 year old that the Dentist is going to drill her teeth with a drill the size of the length of their arm. Now mind you this is all being explained by 8 and 9 year old boys to a 5 year old little girl . So you can only imagine what is going through her mind. I try to set the record straight and tell her that the drill is not that big and more than likely she will not be any need for a drill today.. Then she proceeds to ask me if the Dentist has a drill the same size as her Dad’s drill. Which he uses a Commercial Professional Grade Craftsman 19.6 V Hammer Drill. I tell her once again no honey it is not that big or as large. So she goes on her merry way playing with the toys provided and occasionally glances at the magazines while we are waiting our turn to be seen. Finally They call her back along with her older siblings . Her two older siblings are sitting in Opposite rooms in the dentist chair. Being examined and having x-rays taken. My 5 year old freaks thinking it is some sort of laser okay no more Sci-fi movies for her. She clutches my hand tightly and asks if Her sister and brother are going to be okay . Big tears are streaming down her face and just the look of the Dental assistant I could tell that I needed to get her to relax. So about 20 minutes later it is finally her turn . The Dentist asks her to sit in the chair so she does535043470_5283b427b9_m

Then he put on his mask well that sent her over the edge so I had to put her on my lap so he could take a look inside of her mouth. Not Happening it was like what you see on TV when Animal rescuers are trying to capture an Alligator. So I say to her just open your mouth and it will all be over. She opens her mouth part of the way just enough for him to look and that was it. When it was all over she just about squeezed the life out of me with tears running down her face smiled at the Dentist and apologized and said “Next time I will be better” awe how sweet. He handed her a new Ariel toothbrush and toothpaste and told her to brush and see you next time. He was really nice about the whole thing. So That was my Monday How was yours???…

CIJ: Christmas Goodies

July 7, 2009

One of my favorite childhood  memories of Christmas Goodies is the  Special Package of Homemade Candies sent to My family by My Grandmother Ewers   each year she would send a box of her home made delectable goodies.  And her timing would always be just a week just before Christmas. In the box would contain Divinity, Fudge and Jellied Candies, and Peanut brittle. Oh and you could smell the sweet aroma before even opening the box. That was a true treasure to indulge in and she  would even send cookies for me to set out just for Santa Claus . Very fond memories of her goodies, Yummy. Another Favorite of Mine Was an Idaho Spud Candy bar which can only be found In or around Idaho it’s taste is indescribable and no it does not contain any ingredients’ of  a potato for those of you that may be wondering, Sure you could buy the Idaho Spud Candy bar any time of the year  but My dad would  always hide a few inside the Christmas Tree for me to find on Christmas Morning. idahospud_home and since I no longer have access to these by means of my local grocery store ,I have ordered them from Owyhee Candy Company just for my children can experience the wonderful yummy mouth watering   confection.

What are some of your favorite  Holiday goodies? I would love to hear about them..
